With a busy work and family schedule we have found sticking a weekly calendar to our fridge the most effective way of staying on top of what is coming up each week for the whole family. Ours is just a simple Kikki K one without dates and it is only for the current week.
This is where we write planned visitors, meetings, appointments, kids activities and outings, gym classes, shopping trips, dinner meals and coffee dates.
On the weekend, we plan ahead for that week and write down all scheduled commitments or appointments for everyone then stick it on the fridge so it's visible every day. I feel better knowing what's going on ahead of time so I can effectively plan meals, errands, and down time around commitments.
Things get lost in cyber space in our household if we try and do digitally synced calendars so we've just worked out that a paper calendar on the fridge is perfect. It is also good for hubby as the fridge is one certain place I know he will visit in our house so information or reminders are best kept there!
Owning a business means we often are fitting in extra meetings each week and so on top of the general one parent takes the kids while the other gets their hair cut type of things we end up with each week looking quite different to the one before. Having it written down really helps and it also means both of us are writing things on the calendar as they come up or are booked in.
Our calendar has a little spot to write urgent shopping items too and what’s coming up next week so if there is a big event or meeting then we write that in and it stays in the back of our minds to prepare or shop for that. And given that neither of us work desk jobs It’s a simple way for us to stay on the same page and keep organised when we are not regularly looking through diaries or digital calendars.
