This time of year, more than any other, I have to watch my stress levels. There is so much going on and it’s easy to get caught up in the stress and busyness of it all, isn’t it?!
Essential oils can be an incredible support when you are overwhelmed with stress or emotions so I thought I’d let you in on some great blends that you can use to manage stress and calm anxious or depressed feelings this coming season.
Another area that is a common struggle at this time of year is conflict with, or anxious feelings from being around, difficult family members. Many people also experience grief from feeling the loss of family members that are no longer with us or can’t make it home to celebrate these special days. There are several essential oils that can help ease these feelings and get you through these complex circumstances, so I’ll cover blends for these areas too.
Stress: Balance Blend, Wild Orange and Frankincense.
Anxious Feelings: Juniper Berry, Frankincense, Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Wild Orange.
You could also add Balance Blend to this or have a separate roller of Balance Blend to apply daily too.
Vetiver can also be helpful for those times when you have a very sudden and overwhelming onset of anxious feelings.
Depressed Feelings: Litsea, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Roman Chamomile, Bergamot.
Grieving Loss or Missing Loved Ones: Console Blend or Neroli, Frankincense and Wild Orange
Difficult Family Gatherings: Use the oils listed under anxious feelings before the event and then during if needed. Apply the Forgive blend afterwards to help you release any hurt or bitterness you are carrying.
Make up a blend of the essential oils for the emotions you are feeling from the above lists. Use approx 20 drops of essential oil in 10mls of fractionated coconut oil and keep in a roller or spray bottle for easy use. Apply daily, morning and night at a minimum. Then, whenever you feel stressed or overwhelmed by emotion throughout your day, pull out your roller, apply on your wrists and back of neck and then rub some in the palm on your hands. Cup your hands over your mouth and nose and inhale deeply and calmly until the feelings ease.
When we are experiencing high stress or emotion this can often effect both our quality of sleep and rest as well as our motivation to get through the day so in addition to using the above blends for your emotions, I would also recommend using a blend of Vetiver or Cedarwood with Lavender and Frankincense at night to support restful sleep and Peppermint and Grapefruit in the morning to give you motivation and energy for the day ahead.
A bath/foot bath in Magnesium salts and Frankincense or Lavender Peace Blend at the end of a long/busy day can help you wind down or shut off from work and enjoy your down time at home, as well as supporting your body to rest and recover.
I find that taking a proactive and intentional approach to dealing with stress and emotions is so effective and helps give you back some power in a situation where you can often feel so powerless.
